At this time of year it can be near impossible to dress oneself in the mornings. Trying to master the balance between weather appropriate and on trend isn’t easy when you live in the UK and half the summer is actually winter. The best way to take back control is to ensure your wardrobe is equipped with some strong adaptable staples.
The Wide Leg Trouser
I think this style of trouser has to be one of the most flattering on a smaller frame, especially for women with a short leg to torso ratio (like me). Thankfully the wide leg’s a massive trend right now which means it’s all over the high street. This chic denim option from Gap is culotte length and available from their petite range WOOHOO (also available in Core and Tall ranges). Pair them with a basic bardot crop and trainers to complete the look.

The Wrap Crop
V-necks are great at creating the illusion of more balanced proportions by elongating the body. Since they draw the eyes downwards, you’ll naturally appear taller. This Glamorous Petites piece, available from the Topshop website, also features vertical ribbing which further aids it’s magical lengthening qualities. So essentially, people will think you’re a Giant.

The Blazer
The 80s was a big trend on the catwalk this SS17 and as a result the blazer is back with a bang! This navy blue number is super chic and, once again, the v-neck shape created by the wrap detail will help widen those shoulders making you appear broader. Additionally, if -like me- you look about 14 on a good day, it never hurts to wear something that adds a bit of maturity to your aesthetic. Get it while you can though, it’s just been reduced from £65 to £30 in the sale!

The Slip Dress
A simple slip dress is such an easy throw-on piece during the Summer months. It can be dressed up or down and the loose fit tends to flatter most body shapes. This stripey Bershka beauty features a cute cold shoulder sleeve, perfect for flaunting your tan.

The Baker Boy
So on trend right now, BB hats add a boho touch to any outfit. This lovely tan topper is a bit of a bargain at only twenty quid! It may be faux suede but looks a lot like the real thing at half the price.

The Mule
LOVE LOVE LOVE these mustard bad boys from Autograph but they might set you back a bit. Fortunately, mules are very much on point this season and there’s cheaper alternatives on the high street from places like New Look and H&M. But if you’d rather not compromise good quality then head straight to Marks and Sparks to get your hands on a pair. I find this style of shoe usually works well with mom jeans or culottes.
