One easy way to create the illusion of some extra inches is to wear all one colour (also known as monochromatic dressing). The reason behind this is that, visually, you’ll create the image of a consistent vertical line which makes you appear taller to others. Prints, patterns and colour blocking can often overwhelm smaller proportions, cutting them off in the wrong places; however, the magic of monochrome is that it allows for more of a fluid aesthetic.
If you’re petite and you want to give this technique a go, try it with darker colours. Not only will this lengthen you, but it will also make you appear leaner.
Below are a few key examples of petite ladies who have nailed the art:
This purple plisse pairing looks so comfy it could almost be a PJ set. The ribbed texture enhances the elongating effect too and it’s so easy to wear.
@sherriewebster has nailed the chic all black errrythang aesthetic here with her luxe aviator jacket and casual trackies combo. Perfect for popping into town to do some last minute Christmas shopping, we highly approve of this get up.
In love with the shades of coral @taraneh is donning here. The ribbed velvet bomber is especially elegant and ideal for party season.

We love the effect of the contrasting textures that @aikaslovecloset has used here and the high waisted midi adds so much height! Proof that beige doesn’t have to be boring.
The beauty of corduroy is that the ribbed texture naturally draws the eyes in a vertical direction without the use of a print. The contrasting materials also stop the burgundy hues from being too matchy matchy.
Not strictly a petite blogger but we had to feature this amazing metallic two piece so jazzily displayed here by @lizzyperridon.
Now for something a tad more seasonally appropriate. This gloriously festive ensemble certainly catches the eye. We love the matching shade in 3 different textures ❤️
So there you have it, we hope you’ve been inspired with our monochrome inspiration. For more ideas check out the rest of the blog.
