Your Bank Holiday Style Inspiration

Good news, everyone! It looks like this year we have a lot of bank holiday weekends and the long one ahead of us is finally going to usher in the start of British spring (I mean, it's about time). In true British style, it's not going to be too warm but at least it will be sunny, which means it will probably be much cooler in the evenings. That's tricky outfit-wise but not impossible.

The key to nailing down your outfit during transitional weather like this is to be savvy with your layers and smart with accessories, something I absolutely love doing. As you might have seen during the past few weeks, I’ve been sharing a few ways to style your wardrobe staples that are perfect for the weather ahead of us!

There's no denying that looser shapes are the reigning silhouette as far as skirts and trousers go this year and I’ve worked really hard lately in finding these trending pieces for my online vintage petite selection! This week, I’ve put together my top tips when it comes to styling loose trousers and maxi skirts from day to night. As mentioned, the secret is in the layers you are wearing, so that you can put on or off a piece of clothing at any point during the day and be comfortable. Keep reading!

Maxi Skirts From Day to Night

Like a white T-shirt, trench coat or a great pair of jeans, I consider maxi skirts a wardrobe essential. Maxi hemlines are actually way more flattering than midi ones when you’re petite like me, plus maxis can be worn from 9am to 9pm, and from desk to dinner table.

You can wear this piece with fitted tops, cropped oversized tees, cropped jumpers or even hoodies but what’s really important is how you layer on top of that. An oversized blazer, a biker jacket or a gilet can be the perfect way to add on to this outfit and be ready for the cooler evenings. If it’s going to be really cold, you can always bring a long trench coat with you!

Linen Trousers From Day To Night

Linen pants are versatile: You can dress the clothing item up or down for a casual or elegant look. The best thing about this piece is that you can wear a pair of linen pants and always achieve a comfortable, polished outfit. They come in various colours, patterns and cuts, from linen joggers to wide-leg and cropped. The length and waistline also vary with linen trousers: low-waist linen pants often feature a drawstring and straight leg, while higher rises may have a paper-bag waist. My first advice when it comes to choosing the right style for you is that if you’re 5’4”, you should probably pick a high waist style to elongate your legs.

Whether you’re pairing your loose linen trouser with a simple white top, a cropped fitted tee or an oversized shirt, make sure to always have the right layering option with you. Try wearing a scoop neck loose jumper on top of your shirt, an oversized blazer on top of your fitted tee or a denim jacket with your white top. You’ll have the perfect combination that will help you stay cool in the sun and cosy when there is a light breeze.
